Waterways Ireland. A number of extensive meetings have been held recently on the dry dock and canal permit issues. We understand that both issues have not been fully brought to conclusion but would report that our members issues were listened to in a sympathetic manner. The committee are fully aware of the outcome of these discussions and are available to help members with difficulties in these areas. Heritage Week. Our sincere thanks to the people of Kilcock who hosted our set of HBA story boards in their Community Network premises, where there was much interest in the background to our association. The boards moved immediately to Phibsborough on the Royal Canal where they were displayed in the very successful week long Phizzfest Festival.
The Irish Working Horse Association in conjunction with the HBA, facilitated the re-creation of a horse boat towing excercise. The event occured at the opening of the Phizzfest festival and was quite a spectacle. A report and some pictures can be found at "Towing a Horse Boat". A link to the Irish Working Horse Associations web site and their report on the event (news section) is here.
A contributer puts forward the case for the use of an exotic animal of benifit to canal users. The article is at " Canal Thoughts".
Some pictures of barges that left Dublin in May to travel to Daingean for their inaugural Heritage Day in June are in our gallery.
Some pictures from the very successful Jamestown Featival are here. An account of her attendance at the festival by Cathy Dwane and some pictures, are to be found at My Week in Jamestown.
The latest in the series "Labour History on Irish Waterways", Snippets 7, can be found on our memories page. We would appreciate any relevant articles/news/photos of interest to be published on the web-site. |
