Jamestown show and Heritage Festival Launch.
05 July 2012

The invitations from the festival committee had been circulated in mid- June so the crowds were embarking at Jamestown quay for an exciting river cruise and the pleasantries involved in what was an important occasion. Before we sailed "Moon River" was re- flagged to mark this auspicious date, the fourth of July.

Leaving the jetty for the hour- long cruise, the packed guests were served refreshments by the suitably attired maidens to set the atmosphere. First to speak was the chairman of Leitrim County council who spoke well of Jamestown, its passion for the local heritage and the commitment of those involved in organising the week long festival. After another couple of speakers a little commercialism was introduced with the introduction of the unique Jamestown 2012 mugs and a plug for the River Rats Calendar, helped no doubt by the fact that three of the models were present on the occasion.

Much was made of the anticipated return of the barges which everyone agreed were such a big part of the 2006 event. The busy program was outlined and it seemed no time until our vessel was again approaching Jamestown. A well executed turn and docking maneuvre was observed by the several bargees on board to be followed by our thanks and farewell to all as the lovely evening came to an end for us.
