Daingean Heritage Day
02 July 2012

20th June 2012, Daingean Heritage Day.

The day finally arrived with dry bright weather and crowds arriving from all quarters. Stalls with a variety of handcrafts were set up along the canal bank and displays of horse shoeing ,baking, sheep shearing, painting etc. were soon in full swing. The old store at the bridge was filled with artifacts and information on the past and regular talks to attentive listeners were given by a local historian.

On the street various tractors and farm implemants were set out for the appreciative crowds.

Three heritage barges ( 4B, 4E and 68M ) along with some visiting and passing boats made an interesting canal display.

Daingean has in the past been the venue for a re-union of the canal boat- men and with this new venture, perhaps will see canal boat owners chose to visit when events are planned.

Daingean Developement put a huge amount of work for a very successful day and the positive response will lead to many more heritage days to come.
