Carlow County Museum opens its doors to the public
The Carlow County Museum will be officially opening on the 11th of April by Minister Phil Hogan and will be open to the public at 5p.m. The Museum is now housed in the fully renovated and restored Presentation Convent on College Street.
The Museum will have artifacts from all over Carlow and gives a fantastic representation of the County's fascinating history and heritage. There are a wide range of exhibitions on show, ranging from religion to sport, entertainment, law and order, science, archeological finds and much more.
Carlow County Museum was originally opened in 1973 by the Carlow Historical & Archaeological Society (C.H.A.S). In 1979 the Museum was moved to the Town Hall, a place provided by the Carlow Town Council. In 2002 it was agreed that the Carlow Town Council would take over operations of the Museum, providing professional staff and a new home. The new premises represent the final part of the Cultural Quarter of Carlow which includes the Carlow College, George Bernard Shaw Visual art centre and the Cathedral.
The Museum will be open all year round and will be free to enter, for more information on opening times check out the website www.carlowcountymuseum.ie or phone 0599-31554.
As a member of the H.B.A we would like to invite members to the opening day.
