HBA June 2015 Update

The season is well and truly under way now, with most members out and about on the waterways.  The activities planned for the next couple of months are outlined below, including the August CiC on L. Derg.  It promises to be another busy summer!

Ballycommon:
The Ballycommon CIC over the June Bank Holiday Weekend was well supported with 32 boats attending. Many thanks to Ger Bayly for organising this event.

Shannon Harbour:
Our next gathering will be at the Shannon Harbour Rally. Dates are the 21st to the 23rd of June 2015. For booking or further information, please contact Damien Buckley on 087 8057410 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

The HBA has been selected as one of six items to be featured in the next Cara Magazine (Aer Lingus in-flight magazine) under Heritage week, whose theme this year is industrial heritage. During the Shannon Harbour Rally, there will be a photographer coming to take photos of our floating heritage for this article. Paul Martin and Cathy Dwane will be co-ordinating what needs to be done, but it may involve some flexibility on the part of members in moving boats for a good photo opportunity.

Meelick:
The weekend (27/28th June) following Shannon Harbour, Donal Boland is making arrangements for us to have a weekend at the ‘new’ moorings below Meelick Lock. During the weekend there will be an evening of entertainment in the Pub, with music and also a short talk and tour of the monastic site. The main purpose of going into Meelick is to show that the navigation worth opening up and marking for visitors.
