Following our very successful visit to the Erne in August 2014, the Heritage Boat Association were delighted to organise a music workshop involving thirty students drawn from both Portora Royal School and from St. Michael's College in Enniskillen.
The workshop was run by Richard Campbell of Different Drums who thought the students drumming techniques and gave them the opportunity to practice, perform and feel the rhythm of a variety of drum types including Lambegs, Bodhrans and a wide range of drums from different cultures and countries accross the world. A filmed performance of the event was produced and may be viewed below.
Waterways Ireland kindly donated sponsorship for this event and provided their premises in Enniskillen for the workshop. This workshop builds on the ongoing joint initiatives being undertaken together by the two schools and is part of the HBA committment to engaging with communities connected to the waterways we visit. The logo of the Heritage Boat Association is a Viking longboat with oars. The "stroke" for the rowers would have been called by the beat of a drum, hence the link to the drums of Richard Campbell.
