HBA members and friends head east from Tullamore along the Grand Canal to Ballycommon. The HBA have gathered over the last number of years to mark the (dry) Kilbeggan line of the Grand Canal, running from Ballycommon to Kilbeggan. This year the event marks http://www.heritageweek.ie

The Kilbeggan Canal Harbour Amenity group have worked over several decades to refurbish Kilbeggan Harbour. It is hoped that the canal line will at some stage permit navigation by water to Kilbeggan. The HBA, the Kilbeggan Canal Harbour Amenity group and the local branch of Offaly IWAI undertake an annual Kilbeggan Challenge - always a fun event and an important occasion to annually mark the potential of the Kilbeggan line of the Grand Canal being considered for re-opening.
