Itinerary for HBA on the Royal Canal 2013

HBA on the Royal, Grand Finale

30th April 2013

Today the fleet departed Phibsboro for the trip below Croke Park's Davin Stand and on to the dreaded Effin Bridge. Although there were some delays, all boats were through the bridge by 1:30pm - only a little behind schedule. They then headed to the sea lock at Spencer Dock to await the tide and make the Liffey crossing to Grand Canal Docks.

5th May 2013

The last of our fleet makes the journey into the city centre and joins once again with those who started out from Richmond Harbour. Another long day but enjoyable in the sunshine and party atmosphere. Again Waterways Ireland provide all the back-up needed and with volunteers from Dublin IWAI, the day went smoothly.

Special thanks to Croke Park for access to the Ethiad Skyline - well worth a visit.

... and then The Lung arrives.

Dabu breathing down Paradijs's stern - in Lock 3, Lock 5 and Cross Guns bridge at top right.

Time to head off to Lock 1 and Effin Bridge ...

... just as 71M arrives.

74M gives it socks as Paradijs floats overhead.

Roof top view to the east, showing Clarke's Bridge (Summerhill) and Newcommen Bridge (North Wall).

The queue for Lock 1.

The WI 'A Team' (and Markie).

Having the right tools always makes the job easier.

Hard to know what to say :)

Smiles all round - 76M on the way down in Lock 1 ...

... and out through the dog-leg at Effin bridge.

The fleet movement generated huge local interest.

Paradijs makes it through.

A wave from the guest crew.

Dabu, last boat through the bridge (thanks IE for staying around).

Waiting for the tide at Spencer Dock.

Getting ready to leave DNS.
