2010 is the centenary of the birth of Tom Rolt. His book Narrowboat described a voyage around the English canal system in 1944 and was the catalyst for the formation of the IWA and the fight to save the canals. .

Perhaps, with the opening of the Royal Canal next year, this is an opportunity for someone to re-trace Rolt’s voyage in Ireland described in his book Green and Silver published in 1949.
